Am 7. und 8. Oktober 2023 fand ein Symposium in Schneeberg statt. Das Pilotjahr 2023 stand unter dem Motto "verborgene geschichten”. Was liegt östlich vom Osten? Wie ist das Erzgebirge mit dem Rest der Welt verbunden? Ausgehend vom Kunstwerk wurden Themen wie Postsozialismus, Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, virtuelle Realitäten, Japan, Uran, Kobalt, Performance und ein kopiertes Erzgebirge diskutiert und vor allem Raum für Visionen eröffnet.

Sophia-Charlotte Reiser & Claudius Baisch berichteten über das Forschungsprojekt HeimatWeltBühne. Amateurtheater in peripheren Räumen Ostdeutschlands. Unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Günther Heeg haben sie zusammen mit Mitarbeiter:innen des Centre of Competence for Theatre (CCT) an der Uni Leipzig sechs Amateurtheater/Kulturzentren in Brandenburg und Sachsen untersucht. Sie untersuchten deren Rolle als Vermittler kulturübergreifender Bildung in ländlichen Räumen. Mit den zentralen Begriffen Heimat, Welt und Bühne ging es um die Frage, wie Amateurtheater mit kultureller Bildung zur Stärkung der Demokratie und zur Weltoffenheit beitragen können.

Die Künstlerin und Kuratorin Julianne Csapo sprach über ihre künstlerische und kuratorische Arbeit im Rahmen der Vereine Zeitgemäß e.V. und Kulturmarkt Colditz e.V. im ländlichen Sachsen. Ganz leichfüßig und immer wieder neu ausbalancierend bewegt sie sich zwischen Stadt und Land, Kunst und Nicht-Kunst. Mit großem Erfolg. Erst kürzlich wurde der Kulturmarkt Colditz e.V. mit dem Sächsischen Preis für kulturelle Bildung ausgezeichnet.

Johanngeorgenstadt als verschwindende Stadt. Eine historische und geographische Mikrologie des Verlusts, Vortrag von Dr. Manuel Schramm.
Zwischen 1950 und 1970 verschwanden in Sachsen und Thüringen mehrere Orte von der Landkarte. Sie mussten dem Uranbergbau der Sowjetisch-Deutschen Aktiengesellschaft „Wismut“ weichen. Besonders traf es jedoch die sächsische Kleinstadt Johanngeorgenstadt, die fast ihre komplette Altstadt verlor. Den kreativen Umgang der Einwohner:innen mit diesem Verlust zu erforschen, ist das Ziel des Forschungsprojekts von PD Dr. Manuel Schramm und Prof. Dr. Simon Runkel. Wie gingen die Bewohner:innen mit dem Verlust der materiellen Erinnerungsorte um?

Eine schöne Idee, die Dimensionen des Sonnensystems zu begreifen, sind die sogenannten Planetenbahnen, auf denen die Planeten des Sonnensystems maßstabsgetreu und gegebenenfalls mit Entfernungsangaben dargestellt sind. In ganz Sachsen gibt es eine Reihe von Planetarien und Sternwarten. Darüber hinaus ist die deutsche Raumfahrtgeschichte eng mit Sachsen verbunden, wo mit Sigmund Jähn der erste Kosmonaut ins All flog. Die Kunsthistorikerin Jeannette Brabenetz gibt einen kleinen Einblick in die Raumfahrtgeschichte des deutschen Ostens und schlägt den Bogen zur Kunst.

ost in space kooperierte in diesem Jahr mit dem Festival DRIP - Der Rahmen ist Programm. In diesem Rahmen war der Künstler und Performer Gabriel Carneiro im Erzgebirge und in Chemnitz zu Gast. Carneiro wurde in der Bergbauregion Minas Gerais in Brasilien geboren und lebt seit 2019 in der ehemaligen Bergbauregion Ruhrgebiet in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Er ist ein Wanderer zwischen den Welten. Vieles hat sich in seinem Leben verändert, manches ist fast gleich geblieben. Die Bewegung zwischen Angst und Geborgenheit ist das, was er mitbringt. Im gemeinsamen Gespräch lud Carneiro ein, über Perspektiven, Orte, Naturen, Perspektivismus und Kunst für und in Zeiten des Klimawandels zu sprechen.

Zwischen künstlerischer Feldforschung und Dokumentation beschäftigt sich das Künstlerduo MADE BY US (Saori Kaneko & Richard Welz) mit Radioaktivität in Japan und Deutschland. In ihren künstlerischen Arbeiten manifestiert sich die unsichtbare Strahlung auf vielfältige Weise und es entstehen Installationen, die die medialen Möglichkeiten von Fotografie und Drucktechniken neu ausloten. Im Workshop GLÜCKAUF thematisierten sie mit uns die Relikte deutscher Uran-Wirtschaft.

A symposium was held in Schneeberg on October 7 and 8, 2023. The motto of the 2023 pilot year was "hidden stories". What lies to the east of the east? How is the Ore Mountains connected to the rest of the world? Sophia-Charlotte Reiser & Claudius Baisch reported on the research project HeimatWeltBühne. Amateur theater in peripheral areas of East Germany. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Günther Heeg, together with employees of the Centre of Competence for Theatre (CCT) at the University of Leipzig, they examined six amateur theatres/cultural centers in Brandenburg and Saxony. They examined their role as mediators of cross-cultural education in rural areas. With the central concepts of home, world and stage, the question was how amateur theaters can contribute to strengthening democracy and openness to the world through cultural education.The accompanying publication is freely available on the Leipzig University website.

She moves between town and country, art and non-art, with a light-footedness that is constantly rebalancing itself. With great success. Between 1950 and 1970, several towns in Saxony and Thuringia disappeared from the map. They had to make way for the uranium mining operations of the Soviet-German joint stock company "Wismut". However, the small Saxon town of Johanngeorgenstadt was particularly hard hit, losing almost its entire old town. The aim of the research project by PD Dr. Manuel Schramm and Prof. Dr. Simon Runkel is to investigate how the residents dealt creatively with this loss. How did the residents deal with the loss of the material places of remembrance?

A nice idea to understand the dimensions of the solar system are the so-called planetary orbits, on which the planets of the solar system are shown to scale and, if necessary, with distance information. There are a number of planetariums and observatories throughout Saxony. In addition, German space history is closely linked to Saxony, where Sigmund Jähn was the first cosmonaut to fly into space. Art historian Jeannette Brabenetz provides a brief insight into the history of space travel in eastern Germany and draws a link to art.

ost in space cooperated this year with the festival DRIP - The frame is the program. In this context, the artist and performer Gabriel Carneiro was a guest in the Erzgebirge and in Chemnitz. Carneiro was born in the mining region of Minas Gerais in Brazil and has lived in the former mining region of the Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2019. He is a wanderer between worlds. Much has changed in his life, some things have remained almost the same. The movement between fear and security is what he brings with him. In a joint discussion, Carneiro invited us to talk about perspectives, places, natures, perspectivism and art for and in times of climate change.
